As part of efforts to sensitize
Ghanaians on building a reading lifestyle, the Authority has declared 2019 as the “Year
of Reading” under the theme ‘Reading for Progress’ to encourage the youth and students to develop the habit of
reading. Invited guests for the program are H.E Mrs Rebecca
Akufo-Addo, First Lady, Republic of Ghana, Hon. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Deputy
Minister of Education, High level dignitaries, Schools and stakeholders.
Under the circumstances, the Authority with support
from the government and in collaboration with some corporate institutions and
communities is revamping all of its libraries throughout the country.
The GLA currently has 61 libraries throughout the
country and is adding 15 more libraries previously managed by private
individuals and institutions. The move will help improve the culture of reading among students.
