On Thursday, August 25, 2022, the Associations and Clubs for UNESCO coordinators in Kumasi, Koforidua, and Accra participated in a 180-minute training on Introduction to Learning through Play. It was organized by the Ghana Commission for UNESCO in partnership with the LEGO Foundation. The three-hour training took place on Microsoft teams from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The presentations by Mr. Jan Christensen, a facilitation specialist at the LEGO Foundation, included topics on;
- children as creative, engaged, lifelong learners.
- re-defining play, re-imagining learning, and
- the power of play.
He was excellent in his delivery, especially his playful approach. A key highlight of the training was assembling Legos to create a duck. There were 13 different ducks, such a creative and innovative way of teaching. This made the coordinators request for a second training but this time around, in-person. The Commission is grateful to Mr. Christensen for taking the time to give us such a wonderful presentation and to the coordinators who joined the training, we say thank you, and we look forward to working with you on more training.
