Preparation of a Multi-Stakeholder Strategic Plan Framework for Effective Management of Ghana’s Heritage Resources (2022-2029)

On 31st August, the Working Group of the Ghana Heritage Committee, opened up a 3-Day Workshop to develop a Strategic Plan Framework for the effective management of Ghana’s heritage resources.
At the opening of the Workshop, Mr. John Yao Agbeko, Chief Director of Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Ama Serwah Nerquaye-Tetteh, Secretary-General of Ghana Commission for UNESCO and Professor Kodzo Gavua, Chairman of the Technical Committee of the Ghana Heritage Committee all pointed out the need to a develop a Framework to help in the management of the country’s heritage resources. The Chief Director, in particular, indicated that developing this plan is timely as it will assist key institutional stakeholders in the protection of the country’s heritage resources.
The Framework when developed will be a strategic blueprint from which key stakeholders will draw their action plans and programs. This will further ensure the harmonization of the inter-agency efforts at protecting Ghana’s cultural and natural heritage in its diverse forms. It is also to help streamline policy actions towards a common agenda in the heritage management processes – to make effective use of resources and avoid duplication of functions and efforts; draw synergy in our collective actions at protecting, preserving, and promoting Ghana’s heritage resources for the present and future generations.
