Since 1998, the L’Oréal–UNESCO Prize For Women in Science (also known as the L’Oréal–UNESCO International Awards), annually recognizes five outstanding women scientists, alternating each year between Life Sciences (even years) and Physical Sciences, Mathematics and Computer Science (odd years), and honoring researchers whose work has made significant contributions to the advancement of science. Each laureate, selected by a jury of internationally renowned experts, receives a monetary prize of €100,000 to support their research.
To date, 137 laureates have been recognized—7 having received the Nobel Prize—underscoring the critical role of women in science in driving research and addressing global challenges.
Apply to the 2027 edition
The 2027 International Awards will honour five outstanding researchers in Physical Sciences, Mathematics and Computer Science, each working in one of the following regions: Africa and the Arab States, Asia and the Pacific, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, North America. The five laureates will be selected by an international jury for their exceptional contribution to scientific advancement.
