Through the support of UNESCO, the Ghana
Museums and Monuments Board in collaboration with the Ghana National Commission
for UNESCO in Collaboration organized a conservation and management training
training for site managers (GMMB Staff) from the 2-4 October.
The training workshop which was facilitated
by Dr. Pascal Taruvinga of ICOMOS, aimed to help Ghana (GMMB) to address the
Recommendations made by the Joint UNESCO/ICOMOS/ICCROM Advisory Mission to
Ghana’s Forts and Castles earlier this year.
The opening and closing ceremony of the
training were attended by the substantive and Deputy Ministers of Tourism, Arts
and Culture, the Secretary-General, NATCOM, the Head of Office, UNESCO Accra
and the GMMB Executive Director as well as sections of the media.
The Ministers indicated their unflinching
support and commitment towards addressing the Decision of the 43rd Session of
the Word Heritage Committee Meeting held at Baku, Azerbaijan.
The Hon. Minister also mentioned Government’s
decision to set up a Heritage Fund to help in addressing heritage issues in the
country.
In addition
to Dr. Taruvinga’s thought provoking and insightful presentations, NATCOM also
made a presentation on the benefits of UNESCO’s Participation Program and how
the participants could take advantage of it.
