UN calling all painters, doodlers, designers, solar punks, graphic designers, illustrators, chalk artists, papier-mâché masters ages 17 and under to enter our “Adaptation Visual Art Competition” and showcase your vision for a resilient future!

Climate change presents the most urgent long-term challenge the world has ever faced. At the same time, it presents an opportunity to re imagine how we interact with the natural world and, by adapting to climate change, to build a greener, healthier, and safer future.

What do you imagine a climate-resilient future in 2030 will look like? What will our buildings and classrooms look like? What will our clothing look like? What type of food will we eat and where will we get it from? How will we move around? How will we connect with the natural world and our communities?

Art competition rules: Open to children under 17 years of age and under around the world. Submit a photo or scanned image of your artwork along with your name, age, and country by 30 September 2020, 23:59 CEST.

By entering a submission into this competition, you accept the following terms and conditions and you confirm that a parent or legal guardian also agrees to these terms and conditions on your behalf.

TEP-A Adaptation Visual Art Competition Terms and conditions

• The submission must be your own and you must own the copyright of the image submitted.
• Participants 17 years of age and under (as of 15 September 2020) from all countries are eligible to enter. Your parents or guardians must consent to your entry in the competition, and their contact details will be requested in the submission form. Proof of age may be required to demonstrate eligibility.
• Only one submission per participant is allowed. Group submissions are not possible; participants must submit individually.
• Each entry must have an attached image of the art piece in JPG, PNG, or PDF format. These can be digital drawings, photos, or images of handmade pieces of art that are scanned and uploaded. Each entry must also have a short title and accompanying description (up to 300 characters).
• Submissions must be made either via the dedicated submission form or through the downloadable application form, which must be e-mailed to ac@unfccc.int by the submission deadline.
• UNFCCC reserves the right to disqualify any entry that is inappropriate or inconsistent with the spirit of the competition. Entries must be suitable to be broadcasted, publicly displayed, published or used online by UNFCCC for audiences of all ages.
• From the beginning of the contest, UNFCCC will feature submitted entries at its own discretion on its websites, social media, or in any other medium, digital and printed, at UNFCCC’s discretion.
• Entries will be judged by a UNFCCC selection panel, who will select up to 45 finalists, split across three age brackets (7 years old and under, 8- to 12-years old, and 13- to 17-years old). From the pool of finalists, the selection panel will select up to 15 winners split across the same three age brackets (7 years old and under, 8- to 12-years old, and 13- to 17-years old).
• Finalists will be published on the official website of the United Nations Climate Change Technical Examination Process on Adaptation.
• Winning entries will be announced on the UNFCCC website with the names and pictures of the authors, and will be featured in publications issued by the UN Climate Change secretariat.
• The creators of the top three entries will be awarded certificates and prizes by the UNFCCC.

Data privacy and intellectual property rights

When entering the competition we ask you for personal details such as your name, age, country of residence, email address and/or email address of your parent/guardian.  By providing your contact details, you accept UNFCCC’s privacy policy, which offers more details on how your data will be used and protected.

You confirm that you are the owner of your submission, and that no third party has any right or claim to your submission. The copyright in any submission shall remain your property, but by entering the competition, you grant to UNFCCC, its assigns, licensees and successors, a non-exclusive, royalty-free, irrevocable, transferable, sub-licensee, perpetual, worldwide license to use, edit, adapt, modify, store, copy, reproduce, publicly display, distribute, publish, and disseminate your submission, for UNFCCC’s communication purposes. You acknowledge and agree that UNFCCC is not obligated to utilize any of the materials for the use of which you have granted the right to UNFCCC hereunder. UNFCCC will credit you by using your name, age, and/or country whenever possible when using your submission materials.

By participating, you agree to release, discharge, defend and hold harmless UNFCCC, its assigns, licensees, successors, representatives, the selection panel, donors, partners, and any party associated with the development or administration of the competition, from any and all liability in connection with the competition or any submission-related activities, including without limitation, legal claims, costs, injuries, losses or damages, demand or actions of any kind.

Other information

UNFCCC will not be responsible for late, lost, illegible, or misdirected submissions, or for unauthorized human intervention, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to, or alteration of, entries. UNFCCC is not responsible for any incorrect or inaccurate information, whether caused by any technical or human error, which may occur in the processing of entries in the competition, including but not limited to any misprints or typographical errors.

If, for any reason, the competition is not capable of completion as planned, including by reason of fraud, act of God, or any other factor beyond UNFCCC’s reasonable control which corrupts or affects the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this competition, UNFCCC reserves the right at its sole discretion to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the competition without prior notice.

Entrants may withdraw their entry by sending written notice to ac@unfccc.int.
