CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: YOUTH REPRESENTATIVE ON THE BOARD OF THE GHANA COMMISSION FOR UNESCO

The Ghana Commission for UNESCO is a specialised agency of the Government of Ghana that serves as the official link between UNESCO and Ghana as a Member State of the Organization. UNESCO aims at contributing to global peace and security by promoting cooperation among nations and people through Education, the Sciences (Natural, Social and Human), Culture, Communication and Information.

In a bid to promote the participation of the youth in its operations, the Commission (the Board) is currently accepting applications from young person’s to champion the cause of the youth for the Commission.

We are open and desirous to receive applications from youth that want to provide meaningful input and a youth’s perspective into the governance of the Organization.

1. The successful candidate will work closely with the Commission to mainstream youth voices into its activities.
2. They will lead, at least, one youth project per year.
3. They will attend two Commission meetings per annum as well as other special meetings that may be called.

This position is on voluntary basis and for a two-year tenure, renewable once.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

• Must be Ghanaian.
• Must be between the ages of 15 and 25 years.
• Must be currently in school or have completed school in the last three years.
• Must have worked on youth-driven projects in one of UNESCO’s fields of competence: Education, Natural Sciences, Social and Human Sciences, Culture, Communication and Information.
• Must have no criminal record.

DESIRABLE QUALITIES

• Strong leadership qualities
• IT proficiency.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good command of English Language and at least one local language.
• Fair knowledge of the operations of the UN system.

DUTIES

• Be an ambassador for the Commission among the youth.
• Commitment: attend all meetings of the Commission (Board) – the Commission meets twice in a year. Where there is the need for an extraordinary session, it will be communicated.
• Attend relevant webinars and conferences and acquaint oneself with relevant legislation, policies and activities concerning the youth.
