APPLY FOR AIMS GIRLS IN MATHEMATICAL SCIENCE PROGRAM (GMSP)

The African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) Ghana Girls in Mathematical Sciences Program (GMSP) is an exciting and challenging 9 months program created for bright, curious and creative female high school students to unlock their potential in the mathematical sciences. The goal is to mentor participants to pursue STEM careers at the highest level in research, training and industry. The program is also designed to create a special class of students who will lead cutting edge research and innovation in the next few years.

DURING THE 9 MONTHS PROGRAM, DELIVERY MODELS WILL INCLUDE:

• Monthly meetings to train students on how to identify specific problems, probe the problem and find meaningful ways of solving problems.
• Insightful sessions with leading international scientists who will discuss their work and current open problems in their field of research.
• Career mentoring programs where researchers and AIMS alumni will enlighten participants on diverse career options available after pursuing studies in the mathematical sciences. •Science communication training and industry visits which will enhance the ability of participants to translate technical knowledge into practical terms that the public can engage with.
• Residential component at AIMS Ghana where students take mini courses in selected areas with sound conceptual introduction to the profound and revolutionary ideas at the foundations of modern mathematical sciences.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Each Senior Secondary Schools can nominate 1* female student if she meets all the following requirements:

• She has a passion for and strong ability in Mathematics as reflected in high school course grades and extracurricular activities;
• She intends to pursue studies in the Mathematical Sciences at the university level in the future; and
• At the time of application, she is in SHS 2 or equivalent.
• She is fluent in speaking and reading, and has good listening and writing skills.

FINANCIAL SUPPORT:

Full scholarship is provided for tuition, books, laptop and internet.

Accommodation and meals are also provided at AIMS Ghana for the residential period.

The application form will be completed online (https://bit.ly/3lQN125) by the nominating Senior Secondary School and there is no application fee. Forms to be filled online during the application process include:

• Personal information form
• Nomination form endorsed by Head of Mathematics Department or Head of School •Reference letter from Physics or Mathematics teacher (confidential)
• Upload of last two terms report cards

Senior Secondary Schools can nominate between

2-5 FEMALE STUDENTS if they have more than 1 competent applicant
