OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST
Under the authority of the Director of the Cabinet (CAB) and the guidance and overall supervision of the Director of the Division of Public Information (DPI), the incumbent of the post is responsible for the supervision and overall quality control of UNESCO’s strategic and Corporate Content, including the planning, coordination and supervision of the editorial production of the UNESCO Courier. The incumbent recommends ways to further improve the Courier to showcase UNESCO’s work to as wide a public as possible. Responsibilities include the supervision of the Courier editorial team and the supervision of its administrative and budgetary processes.
In particular, the incumbent shall:

- ln accordance with the Organization’s communication plan and worldwide emerging issues, select topics for publication in the UNESCO Courier. For each issue, elaborate a detailed table of content with themes, subjects, articles and related angles as well as authors’ name taking into account geographical and gender balances and the different areas of UNESCO’s mandate.

- Ensure quality and coherence of the content development of the UNESCO Courier. Manage and coordinate all the editorial processes from conception of each edition to publication. Participate in the overall coordination of the preparation of the UNESCO Courier and the distribution of its content through the different channels. Ensure the timely publication in the different language versions.

- Write and review articles, titles, captions, blurbs, etc. Select photos and infographies for the UNESCO Courier. Contribute and ensure quality control of UNESCO Corporate content produced by the DPI team, including feature stories on UNESCO impact for publication on the web and other platforms.

- Manage relationships with the Courier Steering Committee, External donors and contribute to the financial sustainability of the UNESCO Courier.
- Supervise the work of the Courier editorial team, assigning tasks and timelines, and overseeing the performance of each member of team.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Advanced university degree(s) (Master’s or equivalent) in communication, journalism and/or related field of political science and international cooperation.
Work Experience
- A minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible and relevant professional experience in communication or journalism, with at least five years at the international level.
- Cross-media editorial experience.
- Experience in leading and managing human and financial resources and motivating staff in a multicultural environment.
Skills and Competencies
- Excellent writing and editorial skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Strong conceptual, intellectual and analytical capacities, with a high sense of objectivity and professional integrity, diplomacy, tact and political astuteness.
- Strong management and organizational skills with ability to establish plans and priorities and effectively implement them.
- Good interpersonal and representational analytical skills and demonstrated ability to communicate, advocate, and negotiate with staff and contractants/stakeholders/partners at all levels within and outside the Organization.
- Ability to identify sensitive topics, key strategic issues, objectives, opportunities and risks.
- Extensive experience in electronic media and proficiency in the use of content management systems.
Languages
- Excellent knowledge (oral and written) of one of the official working languages of the Secretariat (English or French) and very good knowledge of the other official working language.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Work Experience
- Professional experience in the United Nations System or in an international and multicultural environment.
