The Ghana National Commission for UNESCO (NATCOM) and Ghana Museums and Monuments Board (GMMB) requested the World Heritage Centre to dispatch an advisory mission team to examine the state of conservation of Ghana’s forts and castles and the impact of the proposed Elmina Bay Project on the Outstanding Universal Value of the Buildings.
The advisory mission team which was composed of experts from WHC, ICOMOS and ICROM arrived in Ghana on 29th and began the mission from 30th of April to 3rd May. With the support of NATCOM and GMMB the advisory mission team visited the Elmina Castles, Osu Castle, Cape Coast Castles, Forts Saint Jago, Fort Amsterdam, Ussher Fort and James Fort to examine their state of conservation.
